ROCHESTER — Residents are invited to help restock a river — which is as easy as pouring fish out of a bucket — later this month.
This is the fifth year volunteers from Waste Management, the Three Rivers Stocking Association and the public will be able to release 300 rainbow trout into the Isinglass River, which is accessible via the Gonic Trails.
The restocking will be held Oct. 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The river is about a half-mile away from the parking area at Turnkey Recycling & Environmental Enterprises, located along Rochester Neck Road.
The event, which will last until the fish are all released, will be held rain or shine, according to spokeswoman Kim Moore.
"Fish don't care if it rains," Moore said, adding a few years ago everyone involved was in raincoats and rubber boots to get the fish in the river while it rained.
It is part of an annual effort by Three Rivers volunteers to restock the Isinglass, the Cocheco and the Lamprey rivers.
Ty Corneau, facility operations manager of Waste Management of New Hampshire, encourages area residents — especially families — to help out while enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
"Come on down the trails to the river, grab a bucket or two of fish, and help us stock the river. Enjoy the natural beauty of the hiking trails and the fall foliage, and learn about the river and its inhabitants," Corneau said in a release.
Additionally, Moore said Matt Carpenter, a biologist from New Hampshire Fisheries, will also be on hand to answer questions about the process and the environment.
"It is a nice little place down there," Moore said.
