Despite loss, UNH football team still ranked

When it comes to national polls, the University of New Hampshire seems to have a lucky horseshoe in its back pocket.

Blowing a 20-3 lead which resulted in a 44-28 Colonial Athletic Association road loss to Towson Saturday, the Wildcats still extended the nation’s longest streak of being a Top 25 team to 132 consecutive weeks.

In the latest Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll released Monday, the Wildcats (1-3) are ranked 25th in the country, down six spots from last week’s No. 19 ranking.

The FCS Coaches Poll finds New Hampshire ranked No. 22, down from last week’s No. 18 ranking.

What probably helped UNH remain in the Top 25 was Saturday’s loss came against undefeated Towson (6-0), which is ranked No. 3 overall in the Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll. Towson is ranked No. 2 in the FCS Coaches Poll.

North Dakota State (5-0) is the No. 1 team in the country in both polls.

This marks only the second time in UNH’s string of nine straight FCS appearances that the program has lost its third game before November.

UNH plays its next two games at home, hosting Rhode Island Saturday for Homecoming and Villanova on Oct. 19.
