Look for changes in high school football Power Poll
The top four teams in the Union Leader/WGIR/WMUR Power Poll all won easily this past weekend, but two of the next three lost, meaning there likely will be some shuffling of the top 10 when the new poll is announced this morning.
No. 1 Concord, No. 2 Bedford, No. 3 Nashua South and No. 4 Pinkerton Academy of Derry won their games by a combined a combined 148 points, making any movement at the top of the poll unlikely. But former No. 1 Exeter’s second straight defeat, 28-6 to No. 6 Bishop Guertin of Nashua, probably means a drop from No. 5 for the Blue Hawks. No. 7 Winnacunnet of Hampton also lost, 42-29 to unranked Spaulding of Rochester.
The other three teams in the top 10 — No. 8 Plymouth, No. 9 Keene and No. 10 Trinity of Manchester — all won by large margins, and the two unranked teams who received votes in last week’s balloting, Portsmouth and St. Thomas Aquinas of Dover, also were victorious in their weekend games.
This week’s poll will be announced this morning during Kelly Brown’s 7:30 sports report during “The Morning Buzz” radio show on WGIR-FM, and posted on UnionLeader.com shortly thereafter.
