Coe-Brown girls 1st, boys 4th in regional cross-country race

The Coe-Brown Northwood Academy girls notched another impressive showing on Saturday.

Backed by top-17 finishes by their top five runners — Hannah Parker (fourth), Elisabeth Danis (sixth), Brooke Laskowsky (12th), Jessie Carney (14th) and Meg Scannell (17th) - Coe-Brown topped a 48-team regional field at the 23rd Annual Woods Trail Run in Thetford, Vt.
The Bears tallied 50 points, 10 better than runnerup Champlain Valley, Vt., Union. Souhegan of Amherst finished sixth (198 points) and Winnacunnet of Hampton took seventh (220).

Parker ran a 19:53 over the 3.1-mile course, but she wasn’t the top New Hampshire finisher. That distinction went to Exeter junior Shannon Murdock, (19:34) who was second to Autumn Eastman of Champlain Valley Union. Eastman, who won the Manchester Invitational two Saturdays ago, buzzed through the course in 18:31.

Madeleine Hunt (19th) led Souhegan and the trio of Amanda Cestrone, Kelly Arsenault and Allison Scibisz took 25th, 26th and 27th to place Winnacunnet.

Not to be overlooked, Coe-Brown’s boys, led by Jeremy Brassard’s runnerup finish (in 16:41), took fourth to top all Granite State teams in the boys’ competition. The Bears scored 260 points, just ahead of Timberlane of Plaistow (290). South Burlington, Vt., took boys’ race honors with 60 points.

Justin Carbone of Exeter ran a 16:49 to take fifth and Souhegan’s Eli Moskowitz fashioned a 17:10 for ninth place.

Fifty-one teams competed in the boys’ race.
