UPDATED: Heavy rain, wind leave hundreds without power in NH

Thousands of New Hampshire residents are still without power because of heavy winds during storms that pushed across the state Monday night.

Public Service of New Hampshire said more than 22,500 customers were without electricity early Monday evening. By 10:30 p.m., the total had been cut to about 12,800.

PSNH spokeswoman Elizabeth LaRocca said line and tree crews planned to continue working into the morning while trying to repair the damage done by the wind gusts. Most of the outages were in the western part of New Hampshire while customers on the coast were not affected.

Nashua was also hit hard by the storms. LaRocca said about 1,200 customers in the Nashua area were still without electricity. The Pheasant Lane Mall was forced to close early due to the outages.

An earlier story follows:

Public Service of New Hampshire says the most concentrated areas are in northwest New Hampshire just east of the Vermont state line in towns of Lyman, Bath, Landaff and Easton.

The utility says customers in Francestown in southern New Hampshire are also without electricity.

In all, PSNH says about 22,500 customers have been affected by outages scattered across the state.
