Lost in storm on Mount Sunapee, hiker found safe in Goshen

GOSHEN — A man who was separated from his caregivers as they climbed down Mount Sunapee was found safe a few hours later as heavy rains and wind swept over the state Monday night.

Fish and Game Sgt. Brian Suttmeier said the 23-year-old’s caregivers told authorities he did not speak, which added to the difficulty of finding him in the dark.

The call came in around 5 p.m. Authorities coordinated an extensive search.

“Because of the impending weather, there was even more concern,” Suttmeier said.

Suttmeier said Goshen Fire Chief Daniel Peterson found the Massachusetts man walking out of the woods about five miles away from where he was last seen.
He was uninjured.
