Man with star tattoo on neck robs Exeter bank

EXETER - Police are searching for a man who appeared to be smiling as he walked into the People's United Bank and allegedly robbed a teller Monday afternoon.
The robbery was reported around 3:30 p.m. at the bank, located at 80 Main St.

The man, approximately 40 to 50 years old, entered the bank and approached the teller and with a note demanding money, police said.

Police Chief Rich Kane said the man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, taking off on foot toward Lincoln Street.
Kane would not confirm initial reports that the man claimed an explosive device was outside.
The robber was described as 5-foot-8, 180 pounds, with a mustache and three-day growth of salt-and-pepper beard, police said. He also has a prominent tattoo of a star on the left side of his neck, police said.
He was wearing a beige baseball hat, dark blue, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black shoes and sunglasses, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information is asked to call Exeter Det. Sgt. Michael Munck at 772-1212 or Seacoast Crime Stoppers at or by phone at 431-1199. The call is confidential.
