Hooksett man dies after being injured in tree-cutting accident

HOOKSETT — A man taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with injuries suffered Thursday afternoon while trying to cut down an evergreen tree in his back yard has died.

The man, who has been identified as Eugene Fraser, was found non-responsive by the Hooksett Fire Department in the backyard of his residence at 47 Mammoth Road.

When firefighters found him, he had what appeared to be head injuries Deputy Fire Chief Dean Jore said. Jore said the man was given CPR on the way to the hospital and was non-responsive when he arrived at the emergency room.

Jore said that it took six minutes for the fire department to arrive at the scene, and rescue workers had to move the tree to treat the injured man.

When the call came in at 1:52 p.m., Jore said that the department was conducting a training exercise and had extra personnel on hand.

“We responded with a engine, ladder truck, staff cars and an ambulance, which is more than is typical for this type of a call. That came in handy because of the tree. It wasn’t right on top of him when we got there but it was a branchy pine tree or spruce and needed to be moved. We were lucky we had extra hands,” Jore said.

Jore said the man was pronounced dead at the Hospital.
