Appointments get the OK from Executive Council

LONDONDERRY — The Executive Council on Wednesday confirmed William Wrenn of Hampton to a four-year term as commissioner of the Department of Corrections.

Wrenn, a former Hampton police chief, has been corrections commissioner since December 2005 and his new term ends on Oct. 10, 2017. The salary grade for the post is $117,912.

“This is one of the most difficult jobs I can imagine and he has done a tremendous job,” said Executive Councilor Chris Sununu, R-Newfields, before the unanimous, 5-0 vote.

The council also approved the reappointment of Walter Morse of Hillsborough to the Fish and Game Commission through June 29, 2018. It confirmed Deborah Pendergast of Gilford as director of the Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services in the Department of Safety through March 31, 2017.

Paul Leather of Concord was re-nominated as deputy commissioner of Education, a post he has held since 2010.

If confirmed at a future meeting, his term would end in October 2017. His nomination was offered by Commissioner of Education Virginia Barry.

Gov. Maggie Hassan nominated John Rist of Manchester, former principal at Manchester Central High School, and Cathy Furtek Conway of Jefferson, vice president of economic development for the Northern Community Investment Corp., to the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees; and Susan Siegel of Newmarket to the Community College System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees, all through June 30, 2017.
