NHIAA Football: Central is Wade's world

MANCHESTER — Friday was a big night for running back Jesiah Wade and the Manchester Central football team.

Wade carried the ball 23 times for 246 yards and two touchdowns to lead Central to a 22-21 come-from-behind victory over Goffstown.

Wade's second TD came on a 3-yard run that tied the score, 21-21, with 1:39 to play. Keegan Laberge's point-after kick capped the scoring.

"Wade is awesome," Central coach Ryan Ray said. "Good player, great person — that's what you love to have on your football team. We had a nice, long pass play and a whole lot of Jesiah Wade."

Central's final scoring drive was aided by two pass interference penalties inside the Goffstown 10-yard line. Central linebacker George Gomes blocked a point-after kick and a field goal attempt in the victory, which raised Central's Division I record to 2-2. Goffstown dropped to 1-3.

"I think it's a size issue," Goffstown coach Justin Hufft said. "We're not very big and they're huge. That's what happens when we play against a bigger team. The kids tried. They're just bigger and stronger than us."

Central trailed 15-8 until sophomore quarterback Anthony DiMauro connected with Nathan Guillermo for an 89-yard touchdown pass. Laberge added the PAT to pull Central even with 1:33 left in the third.

Goffstown took a 21-15 lead when quarterback Casey Gervais scored his second rushing TD from 5 yards away with 10:39 left.

Central's final possession started at its own 10-yard line. The big play was Wade's 68-yard run down to the Goffstown 7.

Goffstown led 15-8 at halftime. The Grizzlies trailed 8-7 when Goffstown's Joe Small blocked a Central punt and gave Goffstown possession on the Central 38-yard line. Four plays later Gervais hooked up with Paul Teixeira for a 7-yard TD pass. Christian Marquis ran in the two-point conversion to make it 15-8 with 4:08 left in the first half.

Goffstown struck first when Gervais scored on a 5-yard run. Sam Shearin's point-after kick made it 7-0 with 9:26 left in the first half.

Wade scored Central's first-half TD on a 59-yard run. After a Goffstown penalty, Central elected to go for two and took an 8-7 lead when Wade found room off tackle.

"I'll take them any way I can get them," Ray said.
