Ayotte blocks Air Force nominee to save A-10 aircraft her husband formerly piloted

An A-10 Thunderbolt II pulls away after receiving fuel from a KC-10 Extender flying over Afghanistan Dec. 14. The tanker is from the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, home of the largest air refueling wing in Southwest Asia. Unit aircrews fly KC-10s and KC-135 Stratotankers in support of wartime operations. (U.S. Air Force)

"As ranking member of the Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee, Sen. Ayotte's central concern is that our troops, including New Hampshire servicemen and women serving in harm's way, have the close air support they need to safely accomplish their missions," Liz Johnson, a spokeswoman for the senator, said in a prepared statement Thursday. "The A-10 airframe is credited with saving 60 American lives this summer in Afghanistan."
