BRENTWOOD — A 48-year-old man accused of being a career criminal has agreed to serve a 15-year minimum prison term in part to resolve charges that he robbed a Portsmouth gas station at gunpoint in January.

Ronald Lee Bauer, of Milton, will plead guilty to charges alleging that he pointed a .45-caliber handgun at a male clerk at Mobil On The Run on Islington Street in Portsmouth on Jan. 12.

He was indicted for armed robbery and felon in possession of a weapon, prosecutors said. Bauer is expected to change his plea on Nov. 21 in Rockingham County Superior Court.

Bauer allegedly carried out a similar robbery at a Somersworth convenience store on Dec. 28, leading to his indictment in Strafford County on charges of armed robbery and being a career criminal.

Court documents indicate that public defenders for Bauer have been working on a plea agreement to resolve charges in both cases along with a suspended sentence being imposed for previous convictions in Strafford County.

The exact terms of Bauer’s sentence in Rockingham County have not been finalized, according to court papers, but his public defenders say the 15-year sentence is expected to run concurrent with the suspended sentence.

He was previously convicted of burglary, robbery and possession of a controlled drug with intent to sell, according to court records.

The armed career criminal charge that Bauer faces in Strafford County is punishable by up to 40 years in state prison and a $25,000 fine.

Bauer was arrested by Portsmouth police in March while he was being held at the New Hampshire State Prison on a parole violation.

He is also wanted in Massachusetts on outstanding charges and in Maine on an attempted murder charge for an incident that happened in Lebanon, Maine, on Jan. 8.
