An employee of the Palace Theatre in downtown Manchester was credited with stopping an attempted burglary in the Hanover Street building.

The employee was in the theater’s office at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when he heard noises and went to investigate. The worker found a man perched halfway through a roof-top window. The intruder immediately reconsidered his plans for the evening, climbed back out through the window and hastened off into the gloaming.

The employee described the intruder as a white man in his mid-30s with scruffy facial hair, wearing a red shirt and toting a dark backpack.

Police theorize the man made his way to the Palace roof via the fire escape.
