CONCORD— Police are continuing to piece together information concerning the death of a woman whose badly decomposed body was found in a wooded area near Route 106 earlier this month.

Investigators say they know very little about the life and activities of Barbara Harrington, 48, whose last known residence was in Manchester.

Detectives presume she was homeless, but have few clues as to where she stayed and how she spent her days.

Harrington had been arrested by Concord police in April on a disorderly conduct charge. The last known sighting of Harrington was in late July, when she was observed by police who responded to a report of a suspicious person at a Concord store

The state medical examiner identified the body after an autopsy last Thursday.

Concord Police Lt. Timothy O'Malley said the autopsy showed no signs of foul play. However, detectives are waiting for the results of toxicology tests to try to determine the cause of the woman's death. It could be months before the results of those tests are available.

The body was found last week in a wooded area near the entrance to a Walmart store. When it was found, the age or gender of the body could not be determined. Police estimated that the woman had been dead for a couple of months.

Police have said the area where the body was found is used as both a cut-through and a campground by homeless people.

O'Malley said detectives are trying to contact family members to answer questions about the woman's background and determine why she was in Concord. She was apparently not a long-term resident of the city, he said.

Detectives are asking for help from the public to find out more about Harrison, her travels and any people with whom she may have been associated.

Anyone with information is asked to call Concord police detectives at 225-8600 or the Concord Crimeline at 226-3100.
