Portsmouth police seek burglary suspect


PORTSMOUTH - Police are asking for the public's help in finding a Maine man suspected of breaking into a local charity.

Police went to the NH Charitable Foundation office at 446 Market St., where an employee reported they had interrupted a burglary and the suspect fled.

Police say based on physical evidence and witness statements, a felony warrant for burglary was issued for James T. Birkbeck of Lewiston, Maine.

Birkbeck is described as a white male, 39, approximately 5'9" and 175 lbs., with blond hair and blue eyes. Police believe he is in the Lewiston, Maine area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Rebecca Hester at 610-7649 or Seacoast Crime Stoppers at 431-1199 or at seacoastcrimestoppers.org, or text a tip to CRIMES (274637) with the letters "TIPSCS".
