MANCHESTER - Senior running back Jesiah Wade scored four touchdowns and rushed for 224 yards to help Manchester Central spoil Manchester Memorial's Homecoming football game, 42-13, in front of an estimated crowd of 2,000 Saturday.

Central (1-2) broke open a close game with a key touchdown late in the second quarter and pulled away from there.

"We played pretty well and I was happy that we were able to contain their athletes," Central head coach Ryan Ray said. "The key late in the game was that we were able to run the ball, keep the clock moving and keep them off the field."

After a scoreless first period, Central scored on the second play of the second quarter when quarterback Richie Greely hit Nathan Guillermo in stride down the left sideline for a 63-yard touchdown and 7-0 lead.

Memorial (1-2) answered with just under eight minutes remaining in the half, capitalizing on a Central fumbled snap. On first down of the ensuing possession, quarterback Stephen Deane connected with Isaac Velez on the left side for a 38-yard strike to tie the game.

Wade scored his first touchdown with 2:58 remaining in the first half, breaking away for a 49-yard score that made it 14-7 Central.

Memorial went on the march, driving to the Central 17 before an interception from Nick Makris put an end to the threat.

"He (Deane) should have dumped the ball down but he tried to force it in. And we had one receiver who didn't run the right route and he brought the linebacker in and that's what caused the interception," said Memorial head coach Peter Colcord. "That cost us really badly."

Central went on to score a touchdown on a 43-yard pass from Greely to Marcus Joseph with 16 seconds remaining in the half to push the lead to 21-7.

Memorial scored the only touchdown of the third quarter on a Peter Abood one-yard run. The PAT kick missed to leave the score 21-13.

But it was all Central after that. Wade broke off a 41-yard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter and added another 34-yard scoring run less than three minutes later to make it 35-13. Another Wade TD run, this time for 14 yards, closed the scoring.

Coming out of the loss, Colcord suspended senior Tyler Bachert and sophomore Nate Hall for one game each. Colcord said that both were involved in separate verbal altercations with opposing players.
