NHIAA Girls' Soccer: Bedford girls pull away from Memorial

BEDFORD — The Bedford High School girls' soccer team turned in a strong performance in its 3-0 win against Manchester Memorial High School Friday afternoon.

Play was mostly on the Memorial end as the Crusaders had trouble keeping up with Bedford's speed and playmaking ability.

Memorial goalkeeper Rachel Thibeault and the Crusaders' defense played well to limit Bedford's scoring.

Memorial coach Joe Romo acknowledged that he kept extra defenders back to help out his goaltender.

"Bedford is a great team. They have a lot of club players" said Romo. "Our girls are mostly rec players."

Bedford coach Michelle Winning said the Crusaders made things difficult throughout the game.

Bedford had numerous chances in the first half but could only convert one.

Bedford had several early chances, including breakaways by Sierra Soghikian shot and Johanna Celli that weren't converted.

Finally, with 18:10 remaining in the first half, Celli centered a pass to freshman forward Seana Gosselin, who scored to make it 1-0.

Memorial did have one scoring chance with 4:11 remaining when Jessica Sweetser had a direct kick from about 25 yards away that Bedford keeper Brooke Barrett handled easily.

In the second half, Bedford began to pull away.

Anna Bogursky's looping shot over Thibeault made it 2-0, and four minutes later Bogursky made it 3-0 when she picked up a rebound off Thibault on a shot by Gosselin.

Winner said Bedford's Bogursky, normally a defender, went on the attack when the opportunity presented itself.

"She can be dangerous on offense," said Winning.
