Carroll woman hospitalized after police standoff
TWIN MOUNTAIN — A woman remained hospitalized Friday after a lenghy standoff at a Ridgeview Drive house.
New Hampshire State Police said Carla Vaughn, no age given, was transported to Little Regional Hospital by ambulance Friday after a state police SWAT unit gained entry to the house and Vaughan was located.
Police said Vaughan was experiencing a “non-police related medical emergency” when found inside the home, but did not specify what the emergency was or how serious it was. The incident began at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, when members of the Carroll Police Department went to Vaughn’s residence for a welfare check.
The state police SWAT unit responded after a handgun was pointed at a Carroll police officer, police said.
Efforts were made throughout the night to communicate with the occupants of the house, before the SWAT unit gained entry Friday morning, police said.
Police believed there was a man in the residence, but he was not found and police said the effort to identify and locate him will continue. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carroll Police Department at 846-2200.
The incident remains under investigation by Carroll and New Hampshire State Police and police anticipate criminal charges will be filed at a later date.
