Woman removed from car after Route 101 crash

CANDIA – Auburn firefighters used the Jaws of Life extrication tool to free an injured woman from her minivan after an accident Thursday afternoon on Route 101

According to Candia Fire Department officials, it is believed that the driver, who was described by fire officials as a middle-aged woman, was driving westbound on 101 when she was involved in an accident that sent her vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder, where the minivan ended up resting on its side.
The woman, who was trapped in her car, was removed after a mutual aid call was put out to Auburn fire department for a Jaws of Life tool, which was used to sheer off the minivan’s roof.
According to Candia fire officials, the woman was conscious and responsive while being removed from her car. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
While fire and road crews worked to clear the debris, one lane was shut down on Route 101 eastbound just past Exit 3. According to state police, the site was expected to be cleared and both lanes open by mid-afternoon.
