Search on for man who robbed Newton bank on bicycle


Police are searching for this man who allegedly robbed the Merrimac Savings Bank in Newton Thursday morning and then fled on a mountain bike. (COURTESY)

NEWTON — Police are hunting for a man who allegedly held up the Merrimac Savings Bank Thursday morning and then fled on a bicycle.

The robbery was reported shortly before 9:30 a.m. at the bank at 29 S. Main St.

According to authorities, the man didn't show a weapon but mentioned one in a note.

He was reportedly wearing a bright red baseball hat, a blue shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers.

The man, believed to be in his mid-30s, fled the bank on a bicycle. The bike's color was described as either green and yellow or black.
