NHIAA Roundup: Heald lifts Bedford boys again
Game-winning goals are becoming a trend with Jim Heald of Bedford.
For the second straight game, the senior standout scored the only goal to lead the Bulldogs to a 1-0 Division I boys' soccer win against host Nashua North Tuesday. Heald scored a double overtime goal in Bedford's 1-0 win against Merrimack last Friday.
Heald collected a rebound 25 yards out and beat North goalie Tim Closson with a high shot to the left corner of the cage. Closson had 12 saves and Bedford goalie Nick Barnard had one save. North is 0-4-1 and Bedford is 3-1.
Pembroke 6, Bishop Brady 1: At Concord, Aaron Locke scored twice and the Spartans also received goals from Jeremy Caruso, Parker Heath, Justus Turk and Seth Bean. Sam Earp scored for Bishop Brady.
Pinkerton 4, Timberlane 0: At Derry, Kyle Hicks collected two goals for the Astros, who scored three times in the second half. Tim Wood and Alex Ebner also scored for Pinkerton.
Derryfield 2, Monadnock 0: At Swanzey, Derryfield (5-0) was led by second-half goals from Grant Alenson (42nd minute) and Griffin Phaneuf (46th minute). An assist was registered by Jared Shoneberger. Derryfield goalie Drew Johnson saved six shots for his fourth shutout in five outings. Monadnock goalie Bryce Blake turned back 16 shots.
Kearsarge 5, Winnisquam 1: At North Sutton, Nick Bailey scored three goals and Andrew VanHooydonk collected two as Kearsarge improved to 3-1-1. Kearsarge goalie Mike Sullivan made six saves.
ConVal 5, Manchester West 1: At Manchester, Austin Wheeler scored three goals to highlight ConVal's victory. Ian Szep and Campbell French also scored for the Cougars.
Merrimack 4, Nashua South 1: At Merrimack, Ryan Guidaboni's goal was the offensive highlight for South, which dropped to 1-4. Merrimack raised its record to 2-2.
Hanover 2, Winnacunnet 0: At Hampton, the Marauders captured their fourth straight shutout win behind goalie Alex Bynum, who stopped one shot.
Manchester Central 2, Exeter 0: At Exeter, Manchester Central (3-2) won its third straight shutout decision behind goalie Dave Gagnon who turned back four shots. Sam Binigono scored the eventual winning goal in the 23rd minute and Blaise Mesumbuko gained the insurance goal in the 72nd minute. Binigono had the assist. Exeter (2-2-1) received a nine save performance from Henrik Barbin.
Memorial 2, Dover 0: At Manchester, Memorial (1-2-2) was led by junior Quinn Morin, who scored both goals. The first one was scored five minutes into the game with the assist going to Anthony Pung off a corner. The insurance tally was assisted by Jonathan Demers in the 60th minute off a corner. Memorial goalie Shawn Cawley turned back three saves. Dover goalie Austin Long stopped three shots.
Gilford 5, Inter-Lakes 0: At Gilford, Jonah Steiss had seven saves for the Lakers (3-2). Gilford is 4-1.
Bedford 1, Nashua North 0: At Nashua, Regan Schiappa's second-half goal handed the Bulldogs the victory. Bedford goaltender Brooke Barrett made two saves.
Goffstown 4, Trinity 0: At Manchester, Michele Tremblay collected three goals and an assist to propel the Grizzlies. Georgia Caine also scored for Goffstown, which received two assists from Sydney Gagnon.
Sunapee 3, Epping 0: Chloe Pelletier stopped 19 shots in the loss for Epping (2-3).
Newmarket 5, Concord Christian Academy 0: At Newmarket, Kat Holmes scored two goals and Morgan Young, Alisa Cote and Gigi Dubois added single tallies to lead Newmarket.
Pinkerton 2, Timberlane 1: At Derry, Pinkerton (5-0) received goals from Grace DiPersio (14:43), assisted by Andrea Galvin and, Keara Doolan (35:52), assisted by Aeriela Thornton. Emily Jackson scored an unassisted goal at the 58:02 mark for Timberlane. Pinkerton goalie Sammy Mitchell had six saves while Timberlane netminder Emily Barrett turned back eight shots.
Hillsboro-Deering 4, Newport 0: At Newport, Paytne Walker, Hannah Murdough, Bridgette Winters and Sam Audette each collected a goal as Hillsboro-Deering improved to 3-2, Newport dropped to 1-4. Emma Moore (one save) and Hillary Madore (three saves) shared time in the Hillsboro-Deering goal.
Littleton 2 Mascoma 1: At Canaan, Aleigha Langtange scored the winning goal in the second half. Rachel Fillion, from Paige Kezerian, gave Littleton a 1-0 lead. Mascoma's Brooke Pushee tied the game before halftime. Littleton is 4-1 overall and Mascoma is 1-3.
Plymouth 3, Kingswood 1: At Plymouth, junior Rose Shimberg, sophomore Nora Healey and senior Jessice Toomey scored the goals to help Plymouth raise its record to 2-3. Rachel Lapar scored for Kingswood (0-3).
Bedford 1, Nashua North 0: At Bedford, Kathlyn Rooney's overtime goal helped the Bulldogs raise their record to 3-2.
Cambell 3, John Stark 0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-11): Brianna Hardy recorded eight kills, 10 service points, six digs and one assist to help Campbell improve its record to 5-0. Campbell received 17 service points (three aces) and seven digs from Val Boucher, and 10 assists from Sophie Scafidi. Alex Trevains finished with six kills and one block. The loss dropped John Stark to 0-2.
Hopkinton 2, Sanborn 0: At Sanborn, Riley McNicholas and Doug Fluery (assisted by Nick Fluery) scored to lead Hopkinton (4-0). Rob Ferguson made three saves in the win.
Portsmouth 3, Souhegan 1: In Amherst, Souhegan goalie Teigue Young stopped eight shots and Mike Hayden scored the lone goal. Kyle Siverts scored twice for Portsmouth (3-1-1). Souhegan fell to 3-3.
Exeter 3, Pinkerton 1 (15-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22): Exeter (3-1) was led by Katie Journeay and Hannah McDonald, each with nine kills. Elizabeth Hicks (14 assists, 19 digs), Lexi Verrault (15 digs), Nicole Langlais (14 digs), Olivia Mathieu (20 digs) and Taylor Ferdinando (10 assists, eight digs) each played well for Pinkerton.
Bedford 3, Winnacunnet 1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23): Bedford (1-2) was led by Courtney O'Connell (10 kills, 2 blocks), Morgan Edwards (6 kills, 6 digs, 3 aces) and Kristen Barnett (4 kills, 3 aces, 10 digs). Winnacunnet (1-3) was led by Chynna Wan with five kills and Melina Minichello with three kills. Meg Knollmeyer also had four kills and two blocks.
Spaulding 3, Goffstown 2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12): At Rochester, Spaulding (4-0) was led by Jade Gilidden (32 assists), Jane Douglas (16 kills) and Casey Ford (63 digs). Goffstown was led by Jess Williamson (15 kills, four aces), Rene Roggenbuck (nine kills, 11 blocks) and Kendra Siemiesz with 25 assists and three blocks. Goffstown is 1-2.
Portsmouth Christian 3, Raymond 0 (25-19, 25-2, 25-20): At Dover, Sheila Tobin had seven aces as PCA raised its record to 3-2.
PCA had 18 kills in the win.
