New poll shows Shaheen, Hassan leading prospective GOP challengers

An early poll of potential 2014 matchups by a Democratic-leaning pollster shows Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Gov. Maggie Hassan leading prospective Republican challengers.

The poll, with a 3 percent margin of error, by Public Policy Polling of North Carolina showed Shaheen leading former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, 48-44 percent; former U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass, 51-44 percent; former state Sen. Jim Rubens 50-33 percent, activist Karen Testerman 50-31 percent and former U.S. Rep. Bob Smith 51-35 percent. Hassan leads Republicans Brad Cook 49 to 34 percent; state Senate President Chuck Morse 49 to 33 percent; state Sen. Andy Sanborn 49 to 32 percent; and state Rep. George Lambert 49 to 32 percent.

Forty-nine percent of those polled approved of Shaheen's job performance, while 42 percent disapproved. Hassan's job performance was approved by 51 percent, with 33 percent disapproving.
