Keene man suffers serious injuries in two-car crash
CHESTERFIELD — A Keene man suffered life-threatening injuries and a Massachusetts man suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on Route 9 Wednesday afternoon.
Police responded to Route 9 at Atherton Hill Road at about 4:15 p.m. for the two-car crash.
Michael Cady, 46, of Agawam, Mass., was driving a 2000 Subaru Forester westbound on Route 9 when he saw a vehicle stopped in front of him waiting to make a left turn onto Atherton Hill Road, police said.
Cady took evasive action and swerved into oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound 2000 Chrysler, driven by Dominic Delvecchio, 48, of Keene.
Upon impact, the Subaru spun 90 degrees and the Chrysler spun 180 degrees, landing in a ditch on the south side of the road approximately 100 feet away.
Cady was taken to Cheshire Medical/Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital-Keene with serious injuries. Delvecchio was airlifted to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., with life-threatening injuries, but was in stable condition, police said.
Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.
Chesterfield police were assisted at the scene by state police, Spofford Rescue, Chesterfield Rescue and Keene Rescue.
The collision is still under investigation.
