This surveillance photo released by Nashua police shows a masked man attempting to rob the Motel 6 in Nashua Thursday morning.

Nashua, Manchester motels targeted by robbers

A masked man tried to rob a Motel 6 in Nashua Thursday morning, and about an hour later someone held up a Super 8 motel in Manchester.

Investigators have not arrested anyone yet in either robbery, but detectives in both cities are trying to determine if the robberies are connected.

Nashua police Lt. Frank Sullivan said the attempted robbery happened about 1 a.m. at the Motel 6 on Spit Brook Road.

The robbery was thwarted, however, by the clerk who immediately called police, Sullivan said. As a result, the robber fled empty-handed.

That man is described as a 5-foot-9, 150-pound white man with brown hair. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, jeans or canvas pants and brown shoes. He had a red paisley bandanna covering his face.

Sullivan said the man might have been armed with a gun.

The Manchester robbery happened about an hour later at 2 a.m.

The man entered the Super 8 motel at 2301 Brown Ave., went to the front counter, announced it was a robbery and demanded the cash.

The 35-year-old clerk handed over the money and the robber fled the motel with it.

Lt. Maureen Tessier said the robber did not mention he had a weapon or a gun and none was shown.

A silver hatchback/SUV, possibly a KIA, was seen in the area at the time of the robbery, but Tessier said investigators do not know if it is related to the robbery.

The robber is described as a blue-eyed, white man in his late 20s with a skinny to medium build. He wore a gray or black bandanna over his face, a black sweatshirt and gloves, the color of which is unknown.
