College Roundup: Franklin Pierce edged by No. 12 Post

The Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team gave a spirited effort in the second half Wednesday night against No. 12-nationally ranked Post University, but it could not overcome a sluggish first half performance in a 1-0 setback to the Eagles at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
 
The Ravens dipped to 1-2 overall, while Post has begun the season 2-0 with wins at Southern New Hampshire and Franklin Pierce, which were both picked to finish first and second, respectively, in the Northeast-10 Conference standings according to the league’s preseason poll released earlier this month.
 
Men's Soccer
 
SNHU 4, Dominican 0: First half goals from Miguel Carneiro, Christian Rodriguez and Keegan Campbell led the Southern New Hampshire University men’s soccer team to a 4-0 win against Dominican N.Y. at Larkin Field in Manchester Wednesday. Brian Francolini added a second half goal for the 2-1 Penmen. Pierre Omanga, Francolini and Jonathan Lupinelli each had an assist.

Field hockey

Bentley 3, Franklin Pierce 0: Junior forward Gina Lirange scored twice for Bentley and freshman goalkeeper Amy Zahensky of Bow made five saves for the Ravens.


Castleton State 7, Plymouth State 6: In Plymouth, Rachel Preusser scored five goals including the game-winner with no time remaining on the clock. Nikki Garvey of Cannan led PSU with three goals.

Women’s soccer

Bridgeport 1, SNHU 0: In Bridgeport, Conn., Julia Weidenmark scored the only goal to hand the Penmen (2-1) their first loss of the season.
 
UNH 2, Harvard 1: Junior Jordan Logue scored her first goal of the season while freshman goalkeeper Mimi Borkan earned her first-career win as the University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team topped Harvard, 2-1, Wednesday night on the road. The win improves the Wildcats to 2-4-1 on the season while Harvard falls to 0-3-0 overall.
