Exeter tops first football Power Poll

Exeter High School began the defense of its NHIAA Division I football title Saturday with a 48-6 rout of Dover, earning the top spot in the Union Leader/WGIR/WMUR Power Poll as a unanimous No. 1 selection.

Bedford, in its first season as a Division I school under the new NHIAA alignment, gained the No. 2 spot after stunning perennial Division I contender Pinkerton Academy of Derry, 14-12, Friday night.

Concord, which rolled over Manchester Central Saturday night, 35-6, is right behind Bedford, at No. 3.

Rounding out the top 10 are Nashua South, Pinkerton, Winnacunnet of Hampton, Keene, Trinity, Londonderry and Plymouth Regional. Merrimack and Bishop Guertin of Nashua also received votes.
