EXETER - Senior Jay Inzenga helped set the tone for the Exeter High School football team Saturday.

Inzenga, a senior fullback/defensive back, scored three touchdowns during a 10-minute span in the first half to drain all of the suspense from Exeter's season opener against Dover, a game the Blue Hawks won 48-6.

Inzenga picked up the ball following a blocked punt and scored from 20 yards away in the first quarter, and then scored on runs of 9 and 17 yards in the second quarter to give Exeter a 27-0 lead.

"He's a diligent worker in the weight room and with conditioning, and any success he has going forward is directly related to his work ethic, which is tremendous," Exeter coach Bill Ball said. "He's a tough kid and he's waited his turn."

Inzenga is part of an all-new Exeter backfield this season. He rushed for 118 yards on 10 carries last year.

The Blue Hawks, who have won the last two Division I championships, also received touchdown runs from Ryan Kelly (17 yards), Mark Cicchini (60), Ryan Quimby (7) and James Peel (70). Exeter led 14-0 after one quarter, 34-0 at halftime and 41-0 after three quarters. Running time kicked in after Quimby's TD.

"That team is built to play a Division I schedule and we're not," said Dover coach Ken Osbon, who is dealing with low participation numbers. "Our kids know what a challenge this is. Our kids are great. Bottom line is we don't have a lot of them."

Dover's touchdown came on a 3-yard run from quarterback Derek Stegman with 9:45 to play.

Exeter will play at Keene on Saturday night.

"The win is a positive and gives you a little momentum heading into next week," Ball said. "The road gets tougher."
