Coming up Oct. 12-14, Sandwich Fair stays true to its origins
SANDWICH - There's something almost comforting about a country fair. Sure it's exciting, with a midway, rides and games of chance. But then there's the neighbors you see, the brute force of animals you look forward to watching every year and the traditions that keep you coming back. That's maybe never more true than at the Sandwich Fair, held this year Oct. 12-14. Complete with a farmers market, craft building, quilt building, other locally-focused attractions and animal pulls of all kinds, the Sandwich Fair stays true to its origins. To that end, this year the Sugar Hill Snubbers Lawn Tractor Pullers will once again be making their brand of ruckus at the fair Monday, Oct. 14. All pulling is done strictly for fun and, as such, there are no cash prizes awarded, fair officials said.“There are four different classes, ranging from ‘Stock' to full ‘Customized Open' tractors,” they said. “The motors in all classes are kept stock and air cooled, but we do remove the governors (except in the “Stock” class) and mufflers to make the show more exciting for the competitors and spectators alike.”Mike Piazza with his Frisbee Dogs will also be back this year, on Saturday at 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 5 p.m.
Tickets Friday night are free from 4 to 9 p.m. and $15 for all the rides. Saturday's ride special is $20 for all rides from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All other days tickets are $10 for adults, $3 for kids age 8 to 13, and children younger than 7 are admitted free. On Monday, seniors aged 60 and older get in for $4. On Monday, all events and stage shows are free with admission, rides and the carnival are extra. Advance sale tickets, on sale now through Sept. 30, are $20 for an adult three-day pass and $6 for a child's three-day pass.Gates open at 8 a.m. all three days and, according to fair officials, close when “all the animals have finished competing and there are not enough people on the grounds for the rides to run.”
The fair is located on Route 109 North, Center Sandwich. For more information, visit www.thesandwichfair.com.
