Taps ceremonies set for next week

Closing ceremonies for the 2013 season of 100 Nights of Remembrance, the nightly sounding of Taps in honor of the country's deceased veterans and first responders, is on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester and on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

The public is invited to attend and both events begin at 6 p.m.

The Mount Calvary Chapter of the 100 Nights Organization is sponsored by Manchester West High School Navy JROTC and features keynote speaker James E. Koutz, national commander of The American Legion.
An assembly of brass musicians will sound taps in unison at the conclusion of the program.

Director of the event, former Manchester resident and Vietman era veteran Noel Taylor said the 100 Nights program is a final, fitting tribute to a veteran that should a live sounding of taps rather than the use of a recorded track that often was used at burial services, due to the shortage of buglers.
Taylor asked that any brass musician, no matter the age or whether they served in the military, are welcomed and encouraged to become a volunteer in the 100 Nights of Remembrance organization.

Anyone interested in learning more about the closing ceremony events or volunteering as a bugler is asked to contact Taylor at or visit the website at
