Family asks for privacy at Derry teen's funeral

HAMPSTEAD — Mourners filled St. Anne's Church Wednesday to bid farewell to Brittany Flannigan, 19, who died of a drug overdose in Boston.

Saying they were totally devastated by her loss, the family had requested privacy and members of the media were kept back from the parking lot in front of the church. A spokesman for family members said they didn't want to speak to the media or be photographed.

A lone cameraman from a Boston television station remained at the exterior of the parking lot during the funeral.

Flannigan was at the House of Blues on Aug. 28 when she suffered a drug overdose. She was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, where she later died.

The popular teen was about to enter her sophomore year as a business major at Plymouth State University. She graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 2012. She was a member of the high school's ski team, according to an obituary.

Flannigan enjoyed dance for 13 years as a member of Keri Productions of Salem. She also enjoyed snowboarding, running and spending time with her many friends.

Authorities believe Flannigan died from a fatal overdose of a form of ecstasy called "Molly."

Results of toxicological tests will take about two weeks to complete, said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
