CONCORD — Sen. Jeanie Forrester, R-Meredith, was named to head the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday, replacing Senate President Chuck Morse, R-Salem, and former chair Sen. Lou D’Allesandro, D-Manchester was named vice-chair.
Morse was chair of the committee before becoming Senate President Tuesday. Morse chaired the committee for three of his four terms in the Senate.
Morse will remain on the committee, but said he felt strongly he needed to pass the chairmanship to another senator capable of devoting full-time attention to the position.
“I have worked very closely with both Sen. Forrester and Sen. D’Allesandro on the past two state budgets,” he said. “I have complete confidence in their understanding of the intricacies of the budget, as well as their ability to oversee the implementation of this fiscal spending plan going forward.”
He noted the 2014-15 budget passed both the Senate and the House with overwhelming bi-partisan support.
“I know Sens. Forrester and D’Allesandro will work well with Gov. (Maggie) Hassan and our executive branch agencies to ensure our spending targets are met,” Morse said. “Managing the state budget properly is the foundation for having a sound economy here in New Hampshire.”
