Passenger described as 'jittery' arrested on drug charges

JUSTIN TARMEY

MANCHESTER - A Manchester man was described as "nervous and jittery" by a police officer who pulled over a vehicle in which he was a passenger. The man was subsequently arrested after the officer discovered a baggy of what is suspected to be cocaine at his feet.

The officer pulled over the vehicle about 1:30 p.m. at Amherst and Walnut streets for an inspection violation.

Justin Tarmey, 29, of 367 Spruce St., was arrested, and police said they confiscated four more baggies of suspected cocaine, totaling about 1.8 grams, found on Tarmey. He is charged with possession of a controlled drug.
Tarmey could enter no plea to the felony charge at his arraignment Wednesday in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester District Division, so a probable cause hearing was set for Sept. 17.

Police prosecutor Lt. Peter Favreau sought $3,000 cash/surety bail for Tarmey, saying he was convicted of operating after suspension in February in Hillsborough County Superior Court North and of driving while intoxicated and trespass in March in Hillsborough County Superior Court South. Favreau said there was an indication that Tarmey's sentence was suspended so he could enter a residential treatment center, but there is no evidence he entered a program.

Judge William Lyons set bail at the requested amount, but it will not take effect unless a 72-hour probation hold is lifted.
