Graffiti sprayed on cars, school in Goffstown

GOFFSTOWN — Yellow and red paint was sprayed on a school, cars, a garage, buildings and signs across town last weekend, and it wasn’t done by a graffiti artist.

“It wasn’t ordinary graffiti you see done by an artist with large, rounded letters. It was straight out profanity with no artistic intent at all,” said Lt. Keith Chauvette. “Some pretty ugly language was used.”

Police said profanity and the phrase Don’t Tread on Me was spray-painted on the side doors, the portable classroom and the back wall of Maple Avenue School. The graffiti on the school was removed immediately.

The vandals also targeted some cars on Spring Street, signs on Smith Road, a private garage on Summer Street, and buildings on Depot and Church streets — all within a half-mile to a mile from each other during the early hours of Sunday, Sept. 1. The value of the property damage has not been determined.

The graffiti was painted mainly in yellow and red, and had similar wording.

The incidents are under active investigation, he said.

“We’re trying to get videos from local stores in the area to identify the suspect or suspects,” Chauvette said.

Also over the weekend, a burglary was reported on Moreau Street and several items were taken from the unsecured home. Police do not believe the vandalism and the burglary are related.“

Every town is seeing an increase in burglaries. They may be part of the same spree; the mode of entry is the same,” Chauvette said.

Anyone with information on the graffiti or the burglary should call Goffstown police at 497-4858.
