Two men, dog unhurt in Rumney seaplane mishap

RUMNEY — Two occupants and a dog aboard a seaplane escaped injury Friday afternoon when the aircraft flipped over while trying to land on Stinson Lake.

State Police Marine Patrol said in a release that pilot Donald H. Stoppe, of Ashland, had taken off from Plymouth Airport and was attempting to perform a touch and go landing when the plane flipped over after it hit the water. Stoppe and his passenger, Nicholas A. Kontrovitz of West Swanzey, were able to get out of the plane safely, the release said.

A firefighter reached at the Rumney Fire Department said Friday night that the aircraft remained in the water Friday night and that officials will attempt to remove it today.
