Gaming panel looks at who should regulate casinos

CONCORD &#-; Several members of the Gaming Regulatory Oversight Authority suggested a new commission might be needed if the state decides to expand gambling in the future.Recent proposals would have the Lottery Commission regulate casinos and oversee their operations, but committee member Kathy Sullivan noted Thursday that the agency is in the business of selling and encouraging gambling, which is what a private casino operator would do.“In a perfect world, shouldn&#';t there be one regulatory authority over all of gaming?” Sullivan asked.Authority member and attorney general Joseph Foster asked a similar question, and committee chair Rep. Richard Ames, D-Jaffrey, noted that issue would be discussed further as the authority does its work.
