Everett, Esterbrook share lead at NHGA Senior Championship
Bill Everett of Owl's Nest Golf Club in Campton and John Esterbrook of Francestown's Crotched Mountain Golf Club and Resort share the lead after the first round of the New Hampshire Golf Association's Senior Championship, which began Tuesday at Kingswood Golf Club in Wolfeboro.
Everett and Esterbrook each opened the two-day event by shooting an even-par 72.
Manchester Country Club's Allen Pattee trails the leaders by one stroke, and Jack Benson of Den Brae Golf Course in Sanbornton trails by two. Concord Country Club's Dan Schultz is three shots back and rounds out the top five.
Nashua Country Club's Phil Pleat, who won the 2012 NHGA Senior Championship, shot a 5-over-par 77 in the tournament's opening round. Pleat beat Concord Country Club's Bob Mielcarz in a one-hole playoff to win last year's tournament. Mielcarz shot a 76 Tuesday.
The tournament's final 18 holes will be played today. The lead group — Everett, Esterbrook and Pattee — are scheduled to tee off at 10:40 a.m. Mike Blair of Bretwood Golf Course in Keene will join Schultz and Benson in a threesome that will begin play at 10:30 a.m.
