Saint Anselm students in 130-mile trek to benefit nine charities

GOFFSTOWN — While their classmates were settling in after arriving on campus last weekend, 40 St. Anselm students headed to Lewiston, Maine, only to make the 130-mile trek on foot back to the Goffstown campus.

The annual Road for Hope walk, now in its 15th year, will raise money for nine charities in New Hampshire and Maine.

Walkers will arrive back on campus on Saturday after an eight-day, rain-or-shine journey having raised more than $18,000.
The New Hampshire organizations that will receive donations are St. Charles Children's Home and the Recreation Arena and Youth Services, both of Rochester; the Candia Moore Drug Awareness Program; Kids Café in Manchester; and UpReach Therapeutic Riding Center in Goffstown.Four Maine charities, including Birthline of Portland and Good Shepherd Food Bank of Auburn, will receive proceeds from the walk.In a blog chronicling the walk, campus minister Susan Gabert said the group will meet with representatives of the organizations they are supporting to learn more about the services they provide.
"Each day, we select a charity or two to reflect on throughout our walk, to remind us why we embarked on this journey, to remind us that many of those we share the road of life with travel difficult journeys every day," Gabert
