BEDFORD — Firefighters were called to a small fire Monday night, apparently caused by fallen electric lines.

Wendy Moquin said she was sitting on the porch at her home on Barrington Drive when she heard something that sounded like a fireworks fuse, then another noise before the lights went out.

"It didn't really sound like an explosion. It was more of a whoosh," Moquin said.

Moquin said her husband went outside, saw power lines were down and a fire burning at the end of the driveway.

The family called 911 about 9:20 p.m. and waited inside as firefighters arrived to deal with the downed power lines.

Forestry units were called out to handle a small brush fire that broke out.

Public Service of New Hampshire reported the fire knocked out service to 39 customers in Bedford.
