Bienvenue appointed director of institute
Joan Bienvenue, formerly chief scientist and program manager at Lockheed Martin, has been appointed director of the University of Virginia's Applied Research Institute. The institute, located north of Charlotte at the University of Virginia's Research Park, was created in 2011 to support applied research, education and training with a focus on homeland security, national intelligence and defense.
Bienvenue, a native of New Hampshire who grew up in Auburn, attended Pinkerton Academy and is the daughter of Leonard and Jacqueline Bienvenue of Warren. She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Rivier University in Nashua, a master of science degree in forensic science from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Mary Washington.
Goodall named SBA Region I administrator
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has appointed Seth Goodall of Richmond, Maine, as regional administrator for Region I, which encompasses Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
An entrepreneur, public servant and attorney, Goodall has a long history of working with and on behalf of small businesses in New England, the SBA said. He works as an attorney at Dyer Goodall, P.A., where he represents municipalities, individuals and small businesses in a variety of cases.
He also represents Sagadahoc County and Dresden in Lincoln County as a state senator in the Maine state legislature since 2008 and is the Senate majority leader. Since 2009, he has served on the Maine Economic Growth Council.
Goodall has worked on economic development and small-business matters in the Maine Legislature, co-chairing the Joint Select Committee on Maine's Workforce and Economic Future and serving as a ranking member on the Joint Select Committee on Regulatory Reform and Fairness.
Onyx buys Web design company's assets
Onyx Net Solutions of West Yarmouth, Mass., has purchased the assets of Web design and development company C Perry & Co. of Newton and Hampstead, according to New Hampshire Business Sales, a business brokerage firm in Pembroke.
Onyx Net Solutions plans to maintain and grow the business and build on the reputation and accounts of C Perry & Co. The services include website design and hosting and helping clients enhance their Internet utilization, with a focus on small business and Realtors.
Liu joins Steinert Endodontic Associates
LONDONDERRY — Dr. Hongsheng Liu recently joined Dr. Marilyn Steinert Lyons' endodontic practice.
Dr. Liu is originally from Beijing, China, where he received his initial dental education at Peking University School of Stomatology. He also completed a residency in pediatric dentistry and holds a master of oral biology from Peking. He practiced as a pediatric dentist in China from 2000 to 2005, and was both the leading clinical instructor and assistant professor for pre- and post-doctoral training in the University's Department of Pediatrics during that time.
Dr. Liu enrolled in Boston University School of Dental Medicine in 2008 and was awarded both his D.M.D and Certificate in Endodontics from Boston University, where he was a postdoctoral fellow in Department of Oral Biology and Periodontology. He has also been involved in clinical and basic science research since 1997. In addition to private practice, he is a clinical instructor in the Endodontic Department at BU and is a clinical investigator at the Forsyth Institute in Boston.
