Fisher Cats rally for win, pull closer to playoff berth

Jack Murphy drove in three runs, including two with a double in the seventh inning, to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to an 8-6 Eastern League win against Portland on Tuesday at Hadlock Field.

The win, and Trenton's loss Tuesday night, moved the Fisher Cats (63-64) within 2 1/2 games of Trenton for the second and final playoff berth in the Eastern Division.
Trenton lost to New Britain 6-4.

Portland jumped on New Hampshire starter Deck McGuire for four second inning runs on four hits. New Hampshire responded with five runs in the third inning off Portland starter Terry Doyle, of Salem.

John Tolisano singled to right to start the rally and galloped to third on a double by Kenny Wilson. Andy Burns plated Tolisano with a sacrifice fly and Wilson trotted home on a triple by Nashua native Kevin Nolan.

After Adam Loewen walked, Ryan Schimpf doubled home Nolan and a ground out by Kevin Ahrens to short allowed Loewen to score the tying run. New Hampshire took the 5-4 lead when Murphy singled home Schimpf.

Portland tied the game in the home sixth on Shannon Wilkerson's two-out RBI single to right.

Murphy doubled home Nolan and Schimpf in the seventh and Burns plated Lance Zawadzki with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. New Hampshire reliever Ryan Tepera recorded five swinging strikeouts. He struck out the side in the eighth inning.

New Hampshire reliever Alan Farina earned his sixth save.
