USDA breaks down expenditures on children by families


 




The cost of raising a child in adjusted dollars is up 20% in 2012 vs. 1960, with child care, education and health showing the widest increases, while food dropped from 24% of the expense of raising a child to just 16% today. A single-parent will spend $161,220 to raise a child to age 18, a husband-wife household will spend $173,490.
