Miscues upend Fisher Cats, 3-2, at Portland

Chris Hernandez threw a seven-hitter over eight innings and Portland took advantage of three fourth-inning errors to hand New Hampshire a 3-2 Eastern League setback Monday before 6,814 fans at Hadlock Field.
New Hampshire's five-game winning streak ended and the Fisher Cats (62-64) fell three games behind Trenton in the loss column for the second and final playoff berth in the Eastern Division.
With the bases loaded in a 2-2 game, Portland went ahead when Michael Almanzar scored from third on a force out. New Hampshire took a 1-0 fourth inning lead when Adam Loewen drove home Andy Burns with a groundout.
Later in the inning, Nashua native Kevin Nolan was cut down at the plate trying to score on a grounder to third baseman Garin Cecchini.
The Sea Dogs rallied for two fourth inning runs behind three errors. Cecchini reached on a fielding error by second baseman Amadeo Zazueta and scored when teammate J. C. Linares reached on a throwing error by third baseman Burns. Linares went to third base on the error and scored when Almanzar reached on a fielding error by shortstop Nolan, his 25th error of the season.
The Fisher Cats tied the game in the sixth inning when Peter Hissey singled home Burns.
New Hampshire starter Chad Jenkins allowed two unearned runs in four innings. He walked no one and fanned four. The losing pitcher was Randy Boone (3-2).
