Mass. man indicted for Hampton bank robbery in April

BRENTWOOD – A Charlestown, Mass., man has been indicted for robbing a TD Bank branch in Hampton back in April.

Ryan Patrick Lane, 35, is facing a single count of robbery for allegedly threatening a bank clerk, telling her that he would kill her if she "touched any buttons," according to an indictment.

Lane is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 29 in Rockingham County Superior Court, but he also has to answer to other outstanding charges in Massachusetts.

Hampton police responded to the bank, located at 40 High St., on the afternoon of April 14 at 2:50 p.m.

A man dressed in a Red Sox sweatshirt and white scally cap – later identified as Lane – ran out of the bank into the municipal lot and down an alley behind Zesto Pizza, police said.

Lane allegedly left behind trails of money later recovered by police.
Police were able to identify Lane after releasing a series of photographs taken from bank security cameras.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Lane about three weeks later in Brockton, Mass., after getting a tip about his whereabouts.

Marshals found Lane with a woman at a hotel on West Elm Street in Brockton, Mass.

Lane refused to open his hotel room door, according to U.S. Marshals. The door was forced open by investigators who took Lane into custody along with the woman, investigators said.

Lane was arrested on the warrant for the Hampton robbery, but police say he was also facing charges for another bank robbery in Hingham, Mass., that occurred on March 29. He had another outstanding warrant out of Massachusetts for assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

Lane faces up to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison and a $4,000 fine if he is convicted of the robbery charge in New Hampshire.
