Mark Buehrle threw seven solid innings to outduel Jake Peavy and give the host Toronto Blue Jays a 2-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. The win enabled the Blue Jays to take two of three games in the series, including Wednesday’s 4-3, 10-inning conquest.

Buehrle (9-7) allowed one run and scattered 10 hits while striking out four to win his fourth straight decision. Darren Oliver worked the eighth and Casey Janssen recorded the final three outs to secure his 22nd save.

Peavy (9-5) surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings for the Red Sox. Peavy fell to 1-1 in three starts since joining Boston in a late-July trade with the Chicago White Sox.

With Buehrle and Peavy trading zeroes in the early going, Boston ended the deadlock in the fourth inning. Daniel Nava hit a one-out double to left field, advanced on Will Middlebrooks’ single to shallow center and scored on a Jacoby Ellsbury groundout.

Toronto finally solved Peavy in the seventh, as Jose Bautista reached on an infield hit and scored on consecutive singles from Edwin Encarnacion and Brett Lawrie.

A Mark DeRosa sacrifice fly brought home Encarnacion with the go-ahead run and Toronto held on from there, snuffing out a Boston uprising in the eighth as Oliver struck out Ellsbury to strand a pair of runners.
