City of Franklin wants barn to be 'recycled'
The request for proposals was first made public on Wednesday and the city has already had one inquiry about the barn — from the nearby town of Belmont, which could be interested in parts of the barn for a new pavilion planned near the Tioga River.
"The cíty's longer-term goal for this site is to clean up the property and lay the groundwork for site re-development," said Dick Lewis, the city's planning and zoning director.
City Manager Elizabeth Dragon said the city wants to have the whole barn removed, but also said "pieces" of the barn could be attractive to an entrepreneur.
One inquiry has been made from town officials in Belmont, who may be interested in parts of the barn to use in building a new pavilion on the river, said Belmont Town Administrator K. Jeanne Beaudin, who wasn't sure if the town's selectmen would pursue the idea.
