Stop & Shop closing six NH stores Friday

MANCHESTER — Stop & Shop Supermarket will close six New Hampshire stores, including two in Manchester, on Friday night.

"Stop & Shop New England Division will close its six stores and three gas stations in New Hampshire this Friday, August 16, at 9 p.m.," company spokesman Suzi Robinson said in an e-mail Thursday.

The supermarket chain announced Aug. 6 it would close the affected stores on or before Sept. 21.

The stores closing are: 7 Kilton Road, Bedford; 9 Wason Road, Hudson; 137 Portsmouth Ave., Exeter, 601 Nashua St., Route 101A, Milford; 777 South Willow St., Manchester, and 365 Lincoln St., Manchester.

"We deeply appreciate and thank our associates for their years of service and dedication to the communities of Southern New Hampshire," Robinson said. "We thank our loyal customers for their patronage and appreciate the opportunity to have served since 2003."

Robinson said 670 employees are affected, and "we have not yet determined how many associates may find employment in other Stop & Shop stores outside of NH."
