Hopkinton schools put focus on caring

HOPKINTON—The school district is proposing a new mission statement in advance of the school year, one of the many changes that have occurred over the summer while students enjoy their break.

The new mission statement, according to Superintendent Steve Chamberlin, is “To Above All, Care.”

Chamberlin said that beginning in the fall, the district is going to work to make the focus on caring an integral part of the school community.

“We will be developing an understanding about the mission throughout the year,” he said.

Students at Maple Street School will be welcomed at the end of the month by new tile and carpet in the classrooms and a reconfigured cafeteria. There will also be better air-conditioning after improvements were made to the system.

At the Harold Martin School, the major improvement won’t be seen but felt when the snow starts to fly. A new boiler has been installed, said Chamberlin.

Students at Hopkinton High School will be greeted by 24 new security cameras that were installed with a 50 percent matching grant from the state, and throughout the district, a new Voice Over Internet Protocol phone system is expected to greatly improve communications.

Eight new staff members have been added to the district’s roster, said Chamberlin, and the middle and high schools will be trying out a new schedule that includes time for an academic advisory.

Christie is the real deal

We have found Gov. Chris Christie to be the most consistent, the most confident in his abilities, the most tested under fire, and the most likely to regain the White House from a disastrous Democratic regime.
