WINDHAM — The Nashua landscaper who revived an unconscious Windham toddler who'd fallen into a pool earlier this summer was praised for his heroics during Monday night's meeting of the Board of Selectmen.

Matt Pulomena, 24, an employee of Design Works Landscaping, was presented with the Citizen Life Saver Award at the start of Monday's meeting.

Also attending the meeting was 4-year-old Conner St. Laurent and his mother, Rachael St. Laurent.

The young mother didn't comment during the meeting, but appeared overcome with emotion, throwing her arms around both Pulomena and the fire chief following the award presentation.

St. Laurent was also presented with a framed photograph of her and her son with Pulomena during a recent fire station visit.

"Due to Mr. Pulomena's actions, this situation ended up with a very positive outcome," Windham Fire Chief Tom McPherson said.

McPherson said the little boy, whose family preferred he stay out of the spotlight, was doing extremely well following last month's accident.

Without hesitation, Pulomena rushed over the fence and successfully performed several cycles of CPR on the unconscious little boy until he began coughing up water.

Following Conner's dramatic poolside rescue, local firefighters continued to work on the boy while on the way to Parkland Medical Center in Derry.

Conner was later taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, where he was released about a week and a half later. He has since made a full
