Charlie Davies to join New England Revolution

Manchester native Charlie Davies has joined the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer.

Davies comes to the Revs on loan with a purchase option from Denmark’s Randers FC after the Revs traded a draft pick D.C. United to obtain him.

Davies is expected to join the Revs at their next training session in Foxborough, Mass., on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Davies, 27, had been at Randers FC since the start of the 2012-13 season. He was an All-American at Boston College before signing professionally with Swedish club Hammarby in December 2006.

After 55 league appearances that produced 21 goals at Hammarby — including 15 goals in 2008 — Davies moved to French club Sochaux in July 2009 and emerged as a budding star with the U.S. National Team ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

After fully recovering from serious injuries suffered in a car accident in late 2009, Davies was loaned to MLS club D.C. United for the 2011 season, where he scored 11 goals in 26 appearances. Following the stint in D.C., Davies returned to Sochaux for the remainder of the 2011-12 season before moving to Randers FC last summer.

Davies made a career-high 13 appearances for the U.S. national team — scoring three goals — in 2009, including five appearances in final-round World Cup Qualifiers.

A member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team in Beijing, he made five appearances in Olympic qualifying and the Olympic Games.
