Fisher Cats' offensive woes continue

MANCHESTER — Offense continued to be a problem for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night, when Bowie pitching held the hosts to seven hits in a 9-2 victory.

The Fisher Cats have failed to score more than three runs in each of their last seven games.

Catcher A.J. Jimenez provided New Hampshire's offensive highlight when he hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. Right fielder Adam Loewen and first baseman Gabe Jacobo each had two hits for New Hampshire.

Kyle Drabek, who is working his way back from his second Tommy John surgery, made his second rehabilitation start for the Fisher Cats (55-60) and took the loss. He was pulled in the fifth after he threw 65 pitches. Drabek allowed two runs on three hits.

Bowie starter Devin Jones, the No. 18 prospect in the Orioles' organization, held the Fisher Cats to two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

It was scoreless until the top of the fifth, when Bowie third baseman Brandon Waring hit a solo home run off Drabek. The Baysox added two more runs in the inning. Kyle Hudson's groundout scored Josh Horton, and Garabez Rosa made it 3-0 when he scored on a wild pitch.

Bowie's lead grew to 6-0 on Trayvon Robinson's three-run home run off Evan Crawford in the seventh. Bowie (58-58) added another run in the seventh when Caleb Joseph hit a sacrifice fly that scored Buck Britton.

Rosa scored from third on a double play in the eighth to make it 8-2, and a Rosa single scored Seth Loman in the ninth to cap the scoring.

The Fisher Cats will begin a three-game series against Richmond tonight (7:05) in Manchester.

The probable starting pitchers are Richmond's Edwin Escobar (3-2, 2.32) and New Hampshire's Marcus Walden (6-12, 3.67).
